Saklikent Gorge

We went for a drive up to the hills to Saklikent Gorge. Beautiful countryside. Michaela & Abby went fro a 2 km gorge walk and then back but Zoë wasn't keen so I waited with her. We had a very good lunch at the café where we parked our car in the shade for free.

Zoë and I waiting for Michaela & Abby to get back with Salih, their guide on the gorge walk.

The host for our very nice lunch. 80 Turkish Lira for the four of us.

Yildiz Boat Tour

We went for a day trip on a boat and it was lovely.

To begin with Zoë was very keen to sit on the very front of the boat.

Leaving Kalkan. Our villa is in the centre of this picture, hidden amongst several other villas on the hillside. (Almost everything in Kalkan is on a hillside and of course, they all have the "best view")

There were some dare-devil show offs amongst the turkish crews of the boats.

 Abby knows how to relax!

The food was great. All cooked with fresh ingredients on board. This was the fruit stop. There was also the main course and later on a cake stop.

Before Cake there was an opportunity to take a mud bath. I'm sure it did me good.

Patara ruins

At Patara there are quite extensive remains from what was the main port city of the Lycians (or Lykians). Lycia, which was in this area in modern Turkey, Antalya,  became Persian speaking and then Greek speaking. It later was part of the Roman Empire then Byzantium then the Ottoman Empire. The remains are pretty impressive. Among Patara's claims to fame is that it was the birthplace of St Nicholas who then spent most of his adult life in nearby Myra.
