Patara ruins

At Patara there are quite extensive remains from what was the main port city of the Lycians (or Lykians). Lycia, which was in this area in modern Turkey, Antalya,  became Persian speaking and then Greek speaking. It later was part of the Roman Empire then Byzantium then the Ottoman Empire. The remains are pretty impressive. Among Patara's claims to fame is that it was the birthplace of St Nicholas who then spent most of his adult life in nearby Myra.
